2 passengers caught with $2,073,160 at Lagos airport


Two passengers were arrested over the weekend in possession of $2,073,160 and 20,300 Saudi Arabian Riyal (SAR) at the ‘E’ wing departure area of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA).
The suspects, identified as Talal Hammoud with passport number, A03599105 and Hassan Rmaiti, a Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) staff with duty card number, 25009, were reportedly held by the Airport Committee Special Task Force.
Eporwei Edike Charles, the Nigeria Customs Service Area Controller, said the suspects and the three bags of money found in their possession have been handed over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for further investigation and necessary action against the suspects.
He said the money should have been declared by the two suspects with the Nigeria Custom’s currency desk officers on duty.
Charles explained that the Airport Committee Special Task Force comprises of all security agencies operating at the airport including the EFCC, the State Security Service (SSS), the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency(NDLEA), the Nigeria Immigration Services (NIS) and other security agencies.
