President Goodluck Jonathan has re-echoed the importance of land reform as a critical success factor in the transformation agenda of his administration.
He, therefore, disclosed that the Federal Government had set machinery in motion to put up a National Land Depository designed to record every single land in the country.
Jonathan disclosed this when he received in audience members of the Presidential Technical Committee on Land Reform during the presentation of the 2012 Annual Report of the committee at the Presidential Villa.
He, according to a statement signed by Fidel Agu of the Task Force on Land Reform, urged states and local governments to support the land reform process, noting that Nigerians are looking forward to a successful land transformation programme that would uplift them socially and economically.
The president described as unfortunate the World Bank rating on the difficulty of registering land/property which ranked Nigeria 180 out of 183 countries assessed in 2011 and 182 out of 185 in 2013 and assured that the tide would soon change.
While commending the committee for its commitment towards ensuring a transparent and systematic land administration in Nigeria, the President promised that all funds needed by the committee would be made available.
