Govs Get 25% Discount For INEC Computers



The federal government yesterday asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to grant 25 percent discount to governors of the 36 states to assist them purchase used computers from the commission.
According to Edo State GovernorComrade Adams Oshiomole, the decision taken at the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting yesterday at the presidential villa followed INEC’s offer to sell a total of 78,701 excess laptops and webcams to the states for distribution to secondary schools for the promotion of computer literacy.
Briefing State House correspondents alongside Oshiomhole were the governors of Gombe and KebbiIbrahim Dankwambo and  Saidu Dakingari, deputy governor of Niger State, minister of National Planning, Usman Shamsudeen and Director-General, Debt Management Office (DMO), AbrahamNwankwo.
Oshiomole said INEC should also give 10 percent discount on sell off the computers that are new.
Noting that negotiation on the mode of payment is expected to be finalized by a committee within INEC earlier set up by the council, the governor explained that the computers and direct data capture machines bought for the 2011 general elections were valued at N35billion.
According to the governor, NEC also received a report of the National Seminar on Corruption which was held in MinnaNiger State, in collaboration with theNational Planning Commission.
