Ombatse Cult Informant Arrested As Nasarawa Govt. Compensates Victims’ Families


The Nassarawa State police command has announced the arrest of a serving police corporal, Haruna Joseph attached to the state special security task force for allegedly aiding the murder of some of the security operatives, as wives of slain policemen in Nasarawa State took to the streets, demanding the release of the corpses of their loved ones murdered in Alakyo area of Lafia local government amidst rising death toll from the crises in Nasarawa State.
Governor Umaru Al-Makura was present when the suspect was brought to the government house in Lafia before he was whisked away to the state’s criminal investigation department. The governor confirmed the death of forty-three security personnel while some others are still missing.
The widows of some of the slain security operatives took over the Akwanga-Lafia highway for the second day, preventing all forms of vehicular movement into and out of the state capital requesting for the bodies of their loved ones.
Even an appeal from Senator Barnabas Gemade could not appease the women as his entourage was turned back by the aggrieved women.
And to soothe the tensed situation, the Nasarawa State governor who confirmed the death of forty-three persons went on to explain why the corpses are yet to be released just as he announced the release of some cash palliative to families of the slain security operatives.
In an attack that will pass in history as the deadliest so far in the history of the state, while commiserating with families of those who lost their loved ones in the attack the by members of the ombatse cult on security agencies, the president of the Eggon community in Nasarawa State blamed the government for the crisis that led to the loss of so many lives.
According reports, some of the victims on admission at a specialist hospital in the state have been discharged; the chief medical director of the hospital says the conditions of the other victims are stable.
Ombatse Militia Member
Corporal Haruna Joseph, who was arrested along with his brother, is alleged to be a member of the Ombatse militia group that killed the security agents in the early hours of Wednesday.
He is said to have survived the attack by having a special red sticker placed in front of his Hilux van, which enabled the assailants  identify and spare him.
The suspect was arrested while driving his official vehicle with the sticker still attached to the front bumper.
He has been taken to the state criminal investigation department for further interrogation.
