Depleted Eagles arrive as last team

Players of Nigeria’s Super Eagles have arrived in Brazil ahead of the 2013 Fifa Confederations Cup in Brazil.

The Nigerian contingent flew into Sao Paulo just before midnight on Saturday.

The Super Eagles are the last team to arrive for the tournament in Brazil after disagreements over bonuses between the players and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) threatened to scuttle their chances of making it before their first game against Tahiti on Monday.

The contingent was earlier scheduled to arrive in Brazil on Thursday.

The team flew aboard a South African Airways flight SA 224, Airbus 340-600 from Johannesburg to Sao Paulo on Saturday, and were expected to connect another flight to Belo Horizonte that would touch down in that city at 4am Sunday, June 16.

On board were 22 players and 10 officials.

However, defender Kunle Odunlami and midfielder Obinna Nwachukwu who were dropped from the Confederations Cup squad have since returned to Nigeria.

Meanwhile President of the NFF, Alhaji Aminu Maigari has expressed happiness that the “terrible situation” is now behind them.

“I am happy that the terrible situation is now behind us. We don’t want to look back at the past but instead we will focus on our games in Brazil and see that smiles are put on the faces on Nigerians at the end of the tournament,” Maigari exclusively told supersport.com.

Nigeria will face Tahiti, Uruguay and Spain in Group B of the Confederations Cup.
