Nelson Mandela ‘set to go home soon’

NELSON Mandela has made a remarkable
recovery and may even be going home soon, it
was claimed yesterday.
Former South African president Thabo Mbeki said he
expected the anti-apartheid hero to be discharged
shortly after more than five weeks in a Pretoria
hospital with a recurring lung infection.
It is an amazing turnaround from a fortnight ago
when family and friends feared the 94-year-old was
close to death.
Grandson Ndaba Mandela, 30, told The Sun that Mr
Mandela was doing well despite still being on a life-
support machine.
He said: "He has the heart of a man ten years
younger." Mbeki, who says he knows Mr Mandela's
doctors, told a memorial service at the weekend that
he was expecting them to allow the country's first
black president home to recuperate.
The last official update last week said he was critical
but stable and was responding to treatment.
Mr Mandela, who spent 27 years in prison, celebrates
his 95th birthday on Thursday.
