The government will stop at nothing to keep Michael Jackson's bejeweled glove from winding up in the wrong hands. Specifically, the hands of of Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue, son of the dictator of Equatorial Guinea.
While Obiang officially makes about $100,000 a year as forestry minister of Equatorial Guinea, his net worth has somehow swollen to $300 million including his Malibu mansion, Paris mansion and $2 million wine collection, while 70 percent of Equatorial Guinea lives in poverty.
The U.S. is fighting to keep Jackson’s iconic accessory from his possession, but as his lawyers point out, they legally they don't have a leg to stand on: "The government still has not identified a single victim of extortion or bribery … where [his] money came from is a matter of pure speculation."
