Davido’s ‘official’ Skelewu video draws knocks, kudos

POPULAR musician, David Adeleke, a.k.a. Davido, during the week released the most anticipated musical video of the year, Skelewu. An earlier video had been released by director Sesan Ogunro, which was widely described as a ‘leaked video’ by the singer, who subsequently took off to London to release the ‘official’ one.

Different reactions have since trailed the release of the new video, some good and encouraging, while others have been sarcastic and downright negative. One of such comments was from @charlebros5 who tweeted: ‘Tony Umez paracetamol advert is better than the new Skelewu video lmao (Laughing my ass out)’. Another fan tweeted: ‘Only Ozil can assist Davido with a better Skelewu video’.

Comedianowengee tweeted: ‘If you prefer Moe Musa’s Skelewu to Sesan’s version, you deserve to be slapped with a shovel,’ but another fan, @olamiclassy, tried to be neutral by saying ‘though I prefer Sesan’s version to Musa’s version, I still love Davido for satisfying the needs of his fans.’

Some even went as far as calling the Skelewu video a seasonal movie as @olorisupergirl tweeted: ‘The first video was leaked, the second one is the movie and the third one will be the Return of Skelewu. We are waiting for Part 3.’ @comedianGordons further tweeted, ‘If Davido likes, he should make the Skelewu video a seasonal movie; Tony Umez’s Paracetamol advert will always be better.’

As if that was not enough, @lazywrita tweeted, ‘I give Nollywood two weeks, we will see the Skelewu movie released with Jim Iyke and Mercy Johnson, while Segun Arinze will play Davido, or do you have a camera phone with good recording skills? Please contact Davido to shoot the next Skelewu video.

In fact, at a point, the buzz on Twitter was so much that almost everyone who tweeted called the Ema da mi duro crooner “Davideo” because he had released three videos in about three months.

@MissPrincess then tweeted, ‘A new BBM smiley has been released to replace the confused smiley; that smiley is Davido’s face.

Critics also accused Davido of copying a foreign video, entitled the ‘LMFAO party rock anthem video’ scene for scene; a video which was released in 2011 on YouTube. To this, Moe Musa, who directed the second Skelewu video, replied his critics saying ‘every video director is a thief and all haters are full of shit,’ via Twitter.

Well, different strokes for different folks. While some viewers condemned the video, some ardent fans and followers like @BigFrancis tweeted, ‘Davido has done a killer video for the greatest hit track of the year.’
@CampbellBola tweeted, ‘the new Skelewu is so hot it’s burning my tongue.’ Also praising the video, @Oladapo tweeted, ‘bro, good work on the new Skelewu video. @RoselineWilla tweeted, ‘Skelewu new video touched me, inspired me and is so classic. Welldone, Davido, Skelewu video is Versace.’
An unperturbed Davido who had heard some people already carrying a rumour that he had already run off to ace director, Clarence Peters, to help him shoot a video for N7 million tweeted, ‘smh(shaking my head), this cannot be true.’ He further tweeted, ‘ People have time…All Nah Jonsin 3 Videos Dey, Anyone U Like Watch If U No Like anyone no watch feel Free!OBO. Skelewu video has got 120,000 views in one day, enough said, I am still going to get my cheque regardless. I love my fans,’ he tweeted.
