ASUU In Calabar Insists On Strike Until Demands Are Met

The Calabar zone of the Academic Staff Union of the Universities (ASUU) has protested over the non-implementation of the agreement between the Nigerian government and the union, insisting that they are yet to receive the money released by government.

The Zonal Coordinator, ASUU Calabar zone, Dr. Charles Ononuju, condemned the restriction of the union to hold a peaceful protest across the state by the security agencies.
” It is a violation on our rights as citizens and we will not be manipulated,” he stressed.
The Chairman of ASUU, Micheal Okpara University Of Agriculture, Umudike, Dr. Uzochukwu Onyebinama, said that the poor infrastructure and condition of learning in the nation’s universities can no longer be tolerated.
He said that the attempt by the government to give the union another memorandum of understanding would not work because they had lost faith and confidence in the Federal Government of Nigeria.
