Governor Elechi Blames National Assembly Over ASUU Strike

Governor Martin Elechi of Ebonyi state yesterday blamed the National Assembly for not ending the prolonged strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) by using its constitutional prowess in proscribing the union.

Speaking at a quarterly media chat with members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists in Ebonyi State, Chief Elechi stated that many factors were necessary for the nation to attain socio-economic development needed for self sustainability stressing that the demand of the union was outrageous and sabotaging the nation's effort at improving the education sector.
"National Assembly ought to have made use of their constitutional rights to proscribed ASUU, constitution allows freedom of association which ASUU is one but the way and manners they are going is sabotage to the existence of the country.
"And everybody who is embarking on strike has good reasons but it is only the umpire who is sitting bye can tell the truth and the truth remains that we are a developing country and we must do that on the bases of funds available to us", he said.
Elechi however, assured that his administration would complete the entire projects initiated except the reticulation of the water and infrastructural development at the permanent site of the state University EBSU.
