Obasanjo’s Letter An Admission Of Mistake, Says Abdullahi

FORMER Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, and spokesman of Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Prof. Ango Abdullahi, Friday, described Chief Olusegun Obasanjo’s controversial letter to President Goodluck Jonathan as an admission of mistake.

Speaking to The Guardian on the issue, Abdullahi said that for former president Obasanjo to accept that he was responsible for the leadership mess in the country right from the days of the late president Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar’Adua is a welcome development.
“It is quite unfortunate that Obasanjo is just now realising his mistake of propping up Yar’Adua/ Jonathan ticket in 2007. He has realised that President Jonathan is an incompetent and parochial leader who sees himself as president of Ijaw nation, and not Nigeria.
“It is time for Obasanjo and his co-travellers in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) especially from the North who were responsible for this mess to make correction,” he said.
He commended the former president for speaking out at this crucial moment, stressing that others that were partly responsible for creating the problem for the country in 2007 have decided to play the ostrich.
He expressed concern over Obasanjo’s allegation that the present administration is training snipers and serial killers ahead of 2015 elections.
He said: “The allegation by Obasanjo that President Jonathan is training snipers must be thoroughly investigated. The country cannot afford to go back to days of military dictatorship when impunity reigned unabated.”
