Police Arrest Nine Over Abduction, Death of Octogenarian


Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested 9 persons, including a native doctor, over their alleged involvement in the abduction and death of the wife of the traditional ruler of Ogogoro Community in Igboeze north local government area.
The arrest of the suspects followed a directive by the commissioner for police in the state, Adamu Abubakar Mohammed, for a full-scale investigation of the abduction and subsequent demise of the 84-year-old wife of the monarch.

According to a statement by the police public relations officer of the command, Ebere Amaraizu, the arrested suspects are Paschal Onah alias Achisa, Uche Ugwu, Chinwendu Adonu, Chikodi Idoko, Martin Okpe, a native doctor, Mamman Okechukwu, Ofobuike Okpe, Christain Onah and Friday Eze.
Amaraizu said they were arrested at their hideout after a severe gun duel with the operatives, adding that some of them were injured during the gun battle.
The Enugu State Police spokesman disclosed that the leader of the gang identified as Paschal Onah has already confessed "how he and his gang carried out the kidnap of the late Madam Adisa Ogbo and how she was eventually buried by him and his gang in his compound where they have kept her awaiting the payment of N10million as ransom."
According to Amaraizu, Onah also confessed that the woman died, forcing them to bury her in a shallow grave inside "his compound which he has turned to a dumping grounds for kidnap victims."
He further revealed that Onah also collectedN300,000 from the family of the victim after the death of the woman unknown to her relations that she had passed on.
Amaraizu also disclosed that Onah's gang used to work hand in hand with the native doctor who normally prepares charm for the gang and that they used to give him ram and N30,000 or N50,000, depending on the proceeds of their ransom.
