Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Patrick Dokumor, yesterday said about 105 armed robbery suspects were arrested by his men in 2013 while 26 kidnappers were also brought to book in the state. Dokumor, who stated this in Akure, the Ondo State capital while briefing journalists on the activities of his command for the year 2013, reiterated the commitment of the command to remain focus in carrying out its constitu-tional responsibilities.
The police commissioner also said that no fewer than 30 vehicles and 15 motorcycles were recovered by his men from men of the underworld while three ‘419 suspects’ and two vandals were also arrested by the police in the state.
He listed some of the arms recovered from the criminals to include six AK 47, two AK49, five pump action guns, three assault rifles and 25 locally made guns. Others include 488 rounds of live ammunition, 62 live cartridges and 20 expended cartridges.
The police commissioner said 45 suspects were arrested for rape while two defilement cases were recorded during the year. He added that eight people were arrested for human trafficking and 12 others for child stealing.
He also said all the accused arrested by the command have been charged to court and that his command would resist any attempt by criminals to disturb the peace being enjoyed in the state.
Dokumor said the police command in the state was able to achieve this feat because of some measures put in place by the police and listed some of the measures to include visibility policing, intensive patrol, stop and search, and intelligence networking.
He said: “This has resulted in a drastic reduction of crime perpetrated in the year under review as compared to year 2012, as attested to in the enduring peace enjoyed by the residents and visitors to the state.”
