Another member of the Rivers state executive council, Marshal Uwom, who was Commissioner for Housing, on Monday tendered his resignation letter at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
Uwom’s resignation followed the controversial exit of Dr Tammy Danagogo, former Commissioner for Urban Development from the state’s executive council last December.
Explaining why he dropped out of the Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi-led council, Uwom said his decision followed the decision of the governor to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Series of recent developments, especially the decision of my boss, Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for the All Progressives Congress, formed my decision to leave the cabinet.

“I am a man that fears God and I am also principled too. I belong to the PDP and cannot continue to remain in the cabinet when my principal has left to join another party,” he said.
Reacting to the development, the PDP in the state, described Uwom’s resignation as a welcomed development.

In a statement signed by Jerry Needam, media aide to the state chairman of the party, “the Peoples Democratic Party today welcomes the resignation of the Rivers State Commissioner for Housing, Honourable Stanley Marshall Uwom, from the Governor Amaechi’s Executive Council.
“The party believes that it is only men without courage and those who prefer to continue to act irresponsibly that will allow themselves to be tossed around by Governor Amaechi. In no distant time, the governor will be left alone to hide his face in shame”, the party said.
