President Jonathan’s Official Photographer Attacked

A press photographer, Mr. Callistus Ewelike, attached to President Goodluck Jonathan, narrowly escaped death on Monday night when unidentified gunmen shot him at close range in front of his house at Nyanya, the outskirts of Abuja, and ran away without taking anything.

Eye witness accounts said that the incidence took place between 10pm and 11pm.
Ewelike, who is an employee of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, was said to have been attacked when he returned home from an assignment attended by President Jonathan around Durumi, a settlement in the Federal Capital Territory.
It was gathered that the two men had trailed him on a motorbike and that just as he alighted from his vehicle, one of them shot him in the neck at close range.
It was gathered that the assailants sped off before neighbours, who were attracted by gunshot, could arrive at the scene.
It was learnt that Ewelike was rushed to a nearby hospital from where he was transferred to National Hospital, Abuja where medical doctors are said to be currently preparing him for surgery.
He was however, said to be in a stable condition.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer,  DSP Altine Daniel confirmed the incident and said that the Commissioner of Police, Femi Ogunbayide, has directed ”full scale investigation” into the shooting, with a matching order for the manhunt and arrest of the assailants.
Only last year, Ewelike had played host to unwanted armed men who forced themselves into his house and robbed him of his  working tools, including  camera and a laptop as well as a few other personal effects.
