Mark Can’t Stop Senators’ Defection To APC – Fayemi

Ekiti State governor Dr Kayode Fayemi yesterday said that the defection of 11 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senators to the All Progressive Congress (APC) has come to stay.

Fayemi who cautioned Senate president David Mark against playing games with the defection, described the issue as purely a constitutional matter, which the Senate lacks the power to stop.

The governor was reacting to the stance of PDP senators against the defection of Senator Bukola Saraki and 10 others to the APC at his Isan Ekiti country home while participating in the ongoing nationwide membership registration exercise of the party.

Fayemi said refusal of the Senate to allow the defectors present their letters noted that action was immaterial and cannot be personalised.

According to the governor, “Senator Mark should believe that the defection of these 11 senators from the PDP to APC is a statement of fact.

You can’t abort a baby that had already been born. Whether the Senate president in his wisdom choses to accept or reject the letter is immaterial as far as this is concerned because they have started attending APC meeting.

Some of them have even registered as APC members in this current exercise.

“What we are witnessing in the polity is a revolutionary process. Many have defected from other parties into APC and some are still defecting. You will still witness more high profile defections, even in this state; but I won’t share it with you now,” he said.
